Dr. Czyz received his Bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago. During his undergraduate studies, he spent four years in the Department of Surgical Oncology studying cancer. He earned a PhD degree from Northwestern University, studying cellular stress responses and neurodegenerative diseases. He then spent six years as a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Chicago and Howard Taylor Ricketts Regional Biocontainment Laboratory at the Argonne National Lab working on bacterial pathogenesis and developing novel host-directed antimicrobials. He is current Associate Professor at the University of Florida where he studies microbial pathogenesis in neurodegenerative diseases and develops novel non-conventional antimicrobials. His passion for innovation and entrepreneurship led to Stella Maris Therapeutics.
